Hello readers! It is time for my second yearly reading wrap up. Around this time last year I made a post just like this as one of the very first on my blog. It’s so crazy its already been over a year! While I didn’t get to do a lot of reading during 2025 it was for so many good reasons. I will get into all of those reasons so the end and do a mini life update.

Monthly Book and Page Breakdown
This is my monthly break down for books/pages read in 2025. I started the year off strong with 3 in January and took a break until July.

Genre Breakdown
This is a breakdown of the different genres I read this year. Yet again my most is fantasy but only with 3. A new addition I didn’t have last year is historical.

My 5 Star and My 1 Star…
My Top Read of 2025

My top read of 2025 has to be The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. I wrote a review of this book here on my blog if you would like to check it out! My first time reading this book was in 2025. It really shifted my perspective on reading “classics” and why it is referenced so often when we talk about modern political events.

My Lowest Rated Read of 2025

My 1 star for 2025 has to be Book of Night by Holly Black. It was the first read of the year and it definitely didn’t start it off on a good note. The concept of the book seemed very promising but it fell flat in many, many, ways for me. I never made a formal review of this book because unfortunately I don’t have a lot of good things to say. I will admit the end hooked me in a smidge so I would possibly read the second book. I know the author is a well liked one by many people so I would be open to giving her another shot. It was quite an experience disliking a book so much it was almost comical. I am a huge mood reader and this is the first time I’ve ever rated a book this low. Unfortunately that’s as detailed a review as I am going to give with this book.

My Shortest Read

A House With Good Bones was a highly anticipated read of mine. I fell in love with gothic horror when I read What Moves The Dead also by T.Kingfisher in 2024. It was my #1 read for that year and my first review on my blog. While I didn’t rate this one as high I still enjoyed it. I have more books from this author on my TBR I am still looking forward to reading

In 2025 I finally finished the Throne of Glass series. After putting off finishing the last book for months and months I did it. And yes I did hysterically sob after I was done. I think I will always think about this series and it has a special place in my heart as a book worm. It was heartbreaking to be done with the world and characters I spent so long with. My love for this series now lives in watching tiktoks and finally getting the references. Maybe 2026 will be the year I start Crescent City.

Life Update
I only read 6 books this year. That is a low number for me especially compared to recent years. I would say I am disappointed but that wouldn’t be true. I didn’t have as much time to sit down and read this year and it is for so many amazing reasons.
Last year around this time we saw the house we now live in for the first time. After a lot of thinking, conversations, and going over all the things it would mean for us we decided to buy and move in. The beginning of the year was a lot of setting plans into motion for that to happen. Talking with our landlord, talking to the small amount of family that knew, packing everything for the 4th time, and for me a constant back and forth of worry and excitement. I have learned, especially through this process, I have a very hard time with change. I was so excited to finally have a place of our own, especially with the land around it. There is a lot of memories for my fiancés family tied to this property so it was even more special. We wouldn’t have to deal with landlords, upstairs neighbors, not being able to watch our tv above 5, our dog could have a fenced in yard, I can make cookies at midnight because the noise from my mixer wouldn’t be an issue. So many stresses were about to disappear. I mostly had worries about moving somewhere so rural. It’s funny because those worries seemed so big at the time and now I look back and none of it matters. We moved in mid way through the year in June. That came with all the usual challenges of learning to care for and fix up the house and the property around it. I thankfully have an amazing father in law that has been here every step of the way. That’s how we spent our free time in the summer. Projects around the property.
Before we moved in we decided we finally would finally have enough room for a bigger dog. We chose on a black lab puppy and named her Madeline a month after we moved in. We already had my shihtzu Linkin who was now 4 that we had since he was a puppy. After lots of research on labs, how to introduce a new puppy to the house, the best routine, toys, food, etc for a puppy we brought her home. Somehow we were still unprepared for the amount of chaos this little girl would bring. She’s now not so little anymore and is starting to leave the piranha phase. She takes up a lot of my time still and loves to steal anything she can get her hands on and run around the furniture so you have to catch her. She is definitely the crazy little sister.
My fiancé started what is pretty much his dream job which also came with its set of challenges. 6 days a week 10+ hour shifts was a change for both of us. Especially now with all the responsibilities we gained. We learned the benefits of routine. We learned the benefits of putting our time together and time taking care of our home first. Waking up and have our morning latte together, taking out the dogs, chatting and packing his lunch. Eating dinner together and doing things for the house and hanging out together. On his day off both relaxing and checking things off our list. I can say having a partner who makes sure to spend his time intentionally when he is home is the biggest blessing and the adjustment would be a lot harder if I didn’t have that.I go to bed excited to start the day.
When we weren’t doing projects around the house we were hosting family. In our apartments across the 4 years we had been moved out on our own I can count the handful of times we had hosted or had a little amount of family over. We usually went to their houses and we wanted that to change, at least a little. While we didn’t do as much as we would have liked we definitely made some good memories with cookouts, bonfires, dinner parties, playing in my creek with my siblings, and having water fights.
This year was full of a lot of changes and while I did some of my hobbies and learned new ones it was not reading. I grew a bigger garden, I started learning about birds and how to feed them, I started crocheting, I did a lot of cooking and baking in my new kitchen. I was building my socials when I remembered I had a phone. This year we had a lot of accomplishments. We made it to where we always dreamed we would be. Even if there is less of the people we thought would be here celebrating with us. Another thing this year has taught us is how many relationships disappear when you stop adjusting your entire life to have a relationship with people who would never think to do the same. I thank all of you guys who have celebrated with us and we are so extremely thankful. I made a post about the house, the puppy, our lives and I receive so much support from both strangers and people who follow. It truly means the world to us.
Reading is still something I love. I love writing this blog and having book related social medias. I love sitting in a coffee shop, in my reading chair during a storm, or under my new willow tree and reading a book I can’t put down. I just have to figure out how it fits into the life I have always dreamed of.
